Early Life And Struggles

Hadi Chopan was born on 26 September 1987 in Fars province of Iran. There were financial problems in his house since childhood but Hadi Chopan never accepted defeat.

From an early age Hadi Chopan was very active in sports and he chose boxing as a sport but little did he know that one day boxing would change his entire life.

In his teenage years, Hadi was boxing with full dedication but due to repeated punches on his head in boxing, his hearing i.e. his hearing power was getting damaged and over a period of time he would suffer partial hearing loss.

Due to this hearing loss, Hadi decided to quit boxing at the age of 18. The reason was clear, his hearing had deteriorated and he had realized that Continuing boxing can be very dangerous for his health, but here the real character of Hadi Chopan is visible.

Instead of feeling sorry for himself, he accepted his condition. He never considered his hearing loss as his weakness.

His attitude was that this hearing loss is now a part of my life, I will adapt my life with it. Due to hearing loss, he did not communicate effectively. I have problems, especially with English, because he can’t hear sounds clearly, so pronunciation is also difficult.

But did this stop Hadi from speaking? It’s not at all what stopped him from playing.

Journey from Boxing to Bodybuilding

After quitting boxing, Hadi chopan shifted his focus to bodybuilding. He began formal training in 2002, but his financial situation wasn’t good enough to afford proper gym membership or high-quality nutrition.

He worked in construction, street vending, and took whatever work he could find to keep his bodybuilding dreams alive.

From 2013 to 2017, it was Hadi’s golden period in amateur bodybuilding. From 2013 to 2015, Hadi continuously became WBPF Asia champion, then in 2017 he also won the amateur title in Mr Olympia, but here Hadi had to face another challenge, visa issue.

Getting a visa for USA is a bit challenging for Iranian citizens and Hadi also faced this problem; he had to miss major international competitions several times. Due to visa issues, Hadi took an important decision in 2017.

Partnership with Hany Rambod – The Game Changer

He appointed Hany Rambod as his coach. Hany was an experienced coach who had trained many Olympian champions, including Phil Heath and Jay Cutler.

However, for communication, Hany had to understand Hadi Chopan’s condition. Apart from being a coach, he also acted as Hadi Chopan’s translator, especially during interviews and public events.

Because Hadi’s hearing loss makes it difficult for him to hear clearly and accurately. Responding in English was quite challenging for Hadi Chopan.

In 2019, when Hadi was in peak form and was completely ready for Mr. Olympia, his USA visa was denied.

Imagine months of preparation, perfect conditioning. And at the last moment you came to know that you cannot compete, this was a heartbreaking moment not just for Hadi but for the entire Iranian bodybuilding community.

The same problem continued in Every year there was confusion whether I would get the visa or not. Till the last moment I did not know how tough it would be mentally, this situation would be such that you are training regularly, following a regular diet.

but you do not know whether you will be able to compete on the stage or not. Many athletes face this denial after getting so many denials.

They would have given up, but Hadi’s mindset was different. Instead of feeling rejected, he used every rejection as fuel and trained even harder, becoming even more intense towards his goal.

Olympia Debut – The Rise of the Persian Wolf

Finally, he got the visa and made his Olympic debut, which is considered a huge debut in Olympic history. Hadi came in 3rd placing and also won the People’s Champion Award, proving that he can compete at the world level.

Hadi competed continuously from 2019 to 2024. His consistency in the top 4 placings within the Olympians was a proof of his hard work and dedication.
